But if you look further south, you would find many hidden gems. There are several scenic trekking places near Bangalore, which are a stone’s throw from the city.   • Savandurga Hill: Considered among the largest monolith in Asia, Savandurga hills are about 48 kilometres away from the city, and are an extremely popular destination for trekking. It consists of two hills, the Billigudda and the Karigudda; and has an easy to moderate difficulty level. Watching the sun rise and night trekking are the most popular activities.

  • Skandagiri: Located approximately 61 kilometres from Bangalore, Skandagiri is an ancient mountain fortress, and is an ideal location for camping and bird watching as well. It is more famous for night trekking, and is moderately difficult trek. You also encounter two caves on the uphill trek.

  • Nandi Hills: Also called Nandidurga, Nandi hills is a popular destination, about 60 kilometres away from Bangalore, and forms an easy to moderate trek. One of the top weekend getaways from Bangalore, there also accommodation options available on the peak for those who want to experience early morning sunrise.   • Devarayanadurga: A picturesque location for trekking, Devarayanadurga is a rocky hill at an altitude of 3940 ft. Situated at 72 kilometres from the city, it is famous for the natural water spring called Namada Chilume, which is considered as the source of Jayamangali river. It has a moderate difficulty level, and is popular for its view of the water spring.

  • Makalidurga: A hill fort situated near the village of Makali in Karnataka, Makalidurga is 61 kilometres away from Bangalore, popular for an excellent night trekking experience. A moderately difficult trek, a wonderful experience, this fort is situated atop the massive granite hill.

  • Ramanagara: One of the most popular trekking spots around 55 kilometres away from Bangalore, the Ramanagara trek is moderate to difficult trek. An attractive spot for adventure enthusiasts, who can engage in rock climbing, both pitch climbing and bouldering.

Billikal Rangaswamy Betta: A popular hill located near the Kanakapura town, Bilikal Rangaswamy Betta is a good destination for short trekking, 75 kilometres away from Bangalore. There are resorts in Kanakapura where you can stay and embark on this moderately difficult trek in the morning, and take in the beautiful view from the top, as you can also see the hillocks from the surrounding Kanakapura range.

  •  Madhugiri: A town in Tumkur district of Karnataka, Madhugiri is famous for the second largest monolithic rock hill in Asia, after Savandurga. A moderately difficult trek located about 106 kilometres away from Bangalore, the best time to visit Madhugiri is from October to March.
